MANAGERS across Africa have been told to create blocs and networks to help lift the continent out of poverty.

Chris Kirubi, the chairman of the Nairobi-based HACO Industries, in a keynote address at the second Africa Management Forum at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel, said Africa could only develop if people worked together.

“Africa has potential for development but people need to work as a team. Development of the continent has to be steered by Africans not outsiders,” Kirubi said.

He also called for the development of a savings culture. Kirubi re-echoed the need for African governments to improve public sectors like infrastructure which remain a big obstacle to growth.

Frederick Kawuma, the ACLAIM Africa CEO, the coordinators of the event, said this year’s theme “Africa-the Lion Awakens,” was appropriate due to the enormous business potential in Africa.

He said the summit had grown because CEOs recognised its significance to the challenges they face.

“They need to share experiences on how to maximise all the untapped potential. The lion needs to awaken,” Kawuma said.
