WORLD Boxing Council (WBC) vice-president Houcine Houichi is excited with IBF Africa featherweight Abdu Tebazalwa’s return to the ring.
Houichi has advised Tebazalwa (7-6kos) to first defend the continental featherweight belt before upgrading to super welterweight.
“I read The New Vision story about Tebazalwa’s fight. I hope he is back and can defend his ABU title. Why not combine the fight with a commonwealth title if the challenger is from Africa,” Houichi asked.
Tebazalwa won the title in October 2005 before a year of inactivity. He will return with a non-title home bout against Tanzanian Godfrey Mawe at Little Flowers on November 26.
In a letter to Uganda Professional Boxing Commission (UPBC) president Celestino Mindra (right) on Friday, Houichi said he wanted Tebazalwa to first defend the title.
The Tunisian, who doubles as ABU president, said he was excited with the Ugandan’s new move.
A win for Tebazalwa against Mawe will put him in line for a commonwealth title contest but Houichi wants the fights to be combined.
