SIMBA FC is due to sign a sh28m sponsorship deal with Total Uganda at Bombo army headquarters today.
The package, for the 2006/7 season, follows efforts of club patron and also commander of ground forces in the UPDF Lt. Gen Katumba Wamala (above), who negotiated for Simba.
A source revealed that the package, that will be received in three installments, will be used to acquire new equipment for the club and improve the players’ welfare.
The first installment of sh15m will be handed over to the club chairman Brig. Hussein Ada at a press conference today.
The second and third installments of sh6.5m each will come in February and April respectively next year.
“This is a big boost. It will improve players welfare and also the team’s performance generally,” an official said.
After a stint at the Cup Winners Cup in the early 1990s, the farthest Simba has progressed was in the 1998 Kakungulu cup final when they lost to SC Villa. They fell off to Maji FC at the semifinal of this year’s cup competition.
