UPC has put a caveat on all Milton Obote Foundation (MOF) properties to block their sale.

Jimmy Akena, the Lira Municipality MP and son of former party leader Milton Obote, yesterday defended the move, but said the matter was so delicate that he would issue a written statement later.

Party national chairman Prof. Patrick Rubaihayo, however, condemned the move, in what is being seen as a further split in the 46-year-old party.

Rubaihayo and Akena’s mother, party leader Miria Obote, are also members of MOF but Akena is not. MOF is mainly run by Obote’s former foreign affairs minister Sam Odaka and Celestino Mindra.

The properties include Uganda House, which accommodates the party headquarters, an industrial block on Plot 37/39, 5th Street, Kampala Industrial Area and remnants of the defunct Ugationers Ltd.
