Uganda has been named among countries fanning the war in Somalia.
An 80-page-report commissioned by the UN states that Uganda backs the Somali government against the militants.
It paints the most comprehensive picture yet of disparate foreign interests hardening into alliances with Somalia’s interim government and its powerful Islamist rivals.
The report says Uganda allegedly sent parts for anti-aircraft guns, supplies for building a military camp and about 100 soldiers.
Army spokesman Maj. Felix Kulayigye yesterday dismissed the report as un-researched.
“We know that there is a UN arms embargo against Somalia so we cannot violate it. That is the main reason we have not deployed there.
We cannot send arms to Somalia when we have not yet deployed there. That is like laying a trap for ourselves.
“We have have stated that we need parliamentary approval before we can deploy there. That explains why we have not yet gone there,†Kulayigye said.
