Who sold Oguti Primary School land?
SIR — Is it a directive from the ministry of education to sell off school playgrounds? By law, a school should have a playground among other requirements.

In Tororo district, especially in Tororo Municipal Council, approved school playgrounds have been converted into commercial plots. One example is Oguti Primary School on Nagongera road.
The school has lost its gazetted playground to ‘developers’. As Old Boys of Oguti, we are deeply concerned about the matter and the future of this powerful school losing part of its land to selfish officials within the municipality.
What does the School Management Committee say about this?
We need to preserve the glory of education in this country and we also need to preserve the rights of the children in this school who are being denied exploration of their talents through extra-curricula activities as part of the learning process.
We therefore call upon the Minister of Education, Namirembe Bitamazire, the Church of Uganda, which is the founder of the school and all other stakeholders, including OBs and OGs of Oguti to take serious and immediate action against all parties involved in the sale of the school’s playground to the so-called developers at the expense of the pupils.
The school must recover its land as the playground is part and parcel of the learning process.
