GULU High Court has sentenced two men to seven years in prison each for defiling their step-daughters.

Prosecution led by the resident state attorney, Collins Acellam, told Justice E.S. Lugayizi on Thursday that Paulino Okello, 35, defiled his 16-year-old step-daughter in December 2001 at Peny-Wii village in Gulu when they were in the forest collecting firewood.

He added that Alfred Okidi, 38, also defiled his 14- year-old step-daughter in July and in September 2004 at Pece Pawel parish in Gulu municipality.

Acellam said Okidi defiled his step-daughter when she was going home from school. He told court that both men were living with the mothers of the girls.

Lugayizi said court would have given stiffer sentences to Okidi and Okello if they had not pleaded guilty to save the court’s resources.

“Court has considered all the mitigating factors in favour and against the accused persons and thinks that they deserve custodial sentences of seven years each,” he said.

Lugayizi added that the long time the accused persons had already spent on remand would be deducted from the sentences.
