A 21-year-old woman is seeking US$10,500 (about sh19.1m) to undergo open-heart surgery at Madras Medical Hospital in India.

A 21-year-old woman is seeking US$10,500 (about sh19.1m) to undergo open-heart surgery at Madras Medical Hospital in India.

A statement from the Uganda Heart Institute signed by consultant cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. John Omagino, said Diana Chepkwurui needs to undergo valvuloplasty.

It said the money would cover medical costs, subsistence for the patient and travel expenses for the patient and a nurse. Her brother, Paul Suku, said Chepkwurui was an S.4 student at Kapchorwa Town View Secondary School but dropped out due to the illness.

Funds can be sent to Barclays Bank main branch account number 1775930 in the names of Uganda Heart Foundation (Diana Chepkwurui) or call 0772-242705.
