Uganda Wa’s night out

The invitation only read “party” and the guests were in high spirits at the launch of Uganda Waragi’s new tagline, the spirit that binds us, at the Sheraton Hotel ballroom last Friday.

Even before Uganda Waragi marketing manager Sandor Walusimbi told the guests about the Uganda Waragi credentials of bonding, friendship and sharing, it was clear that the likes of designer Sylvia Owori and artiste Phina Masanyalaze had been made to belong to one class through bonding.

One thing clear about Uganda Waragi is that it frees the spirit. That could explain why Capital Radio presenter Alex Ndawula chose to imaginary “scratch” in imitation of the D.Js. The free spirit should also explain the hugging in the impressively decorated ballroom.

With the Waragi Sunshine, Black Mamba, Red Mamba and Blue 3 cocktails in the house, it had to get heated up.

The Obsessions’s interpretive dance by rarely seen dancers deserved more praise than it got. Praise also went to the ushers.

With our spirits freed, bonding was not difficult. For the newly converted, it was a whole new experience. To realise that they have been missing it since 1965 when it was first produced was to realise that life has not been complete after all.
