Men should be ready to shoulder even the negatives in a woman

What happens when you meet a very attractive woman and you are as idle as the striking Makerere University lecturers?

You may ignore her like Kagoda who rejected sh4.5b that smelled suspiciously. But the moment you decide to offer her your piglets in exchange for her consent to use your Hornsleth name, you should never forget that you are bargaining for a whole package. In love, when you want milk, you end up taking the whole cow.

Take one Ochora for instance. When this girl, Agwang returned his smile, he thought he was buying a sh450m watch like Ezra. But soon after, her dad passed away and he had to take responsibility, which was not limited to university fees, upkeep and family emergencies.

She also had a stubborn Candida, which, like the Movement, threatened to stay forever and was disorganising their sex life. When the university closed, she brought home two more mouths to feed; a colleague and a brother.

Ochora told me; “I am young and also have siblings looking up to me! when I was trying to date this girl, I was not looking for a hole to dump my money!”

I told him; “Sorry, you just didn’t realise it. But whenever you open a love door, you are looking for a place to dump not only your money but your emotions, time, concern and, in short, your life. So, you had better be sure that you really love the person or else, the returns will resemble those of Kananathan and his AGOA project.”

Some people are lucky, they date partners whose dust contains no reducing agents but we cannot all be lucky. Not everybody who organises a strike gets to meet the President. Some are tear-gassed and ignored. When men approach women, the target is sex and romance; but when women (not sex workers) seduce men, they look for love and care.

If men would steal UNEB exams and foresee that the Sophie they are trying to colonise is about to suffer floods, power black outs, cholera and rebel insurgencies, few would go ahead with the campaign. Many would prefer a partner who would not pothole their development road. Before the romance dust settles, they are panting from the financial burden of what set off as having fun.

However, gloom is not something to always factor into any venture especially of a romantic nature. It is okay when behind every beautiful girl, you see lots of good sex, protracted romance, mutual care and social prestige. But don’t play ostrich. Be ready to shoulder even the related negatives that will not be missing on any woman be it the President’s daughter. And if you are already settled in a relationship and think an away game will shoot down some marital stress, you are heading for trouble. You are an FDC supporter matching to the constitutional Square to poke a stick into bees.
