It is no longer a case of owning a phone, rather it is about which phone you own.

It is no longer a case of owning a phone, rather it is about which phone you own.

In what will pass as the biggest phone giveaway so far, City Beat and Midcom last Friday handed over to 21 winners, fully connected Nokia 1101i phones at the Nokia Midcom premises.

The Celtel-connected phones that come with an easy to read screen, MP3 ring tones, an iconic phone book plus sh2,000 airtime bowled most winners over.

Deo Okiror, a policeman from Kawempe Police Post, appeared the happiest among the winners.
On receiving the new phone, he immediately ‘discarded’ his old Nokia 3310, declaring it unfit for his ‘status’. “I feel much lighter,” he said.

He added, “My wife’s dreams have been answered. She will finally ‘inherit’ my old phone.”
Another winner, Peter Muwanga, who has a hearing impairment, never hid his glee.

Asked how he would use the phone, he said he would use it for SMS.

Midcom’s Akash Kumar said since the phone winners were automatically hooked on Celtel, they stood a chance to win sh1m more, in the weekly Midcom and Celtel promo if they top up on airtime.

City Beat’s Kalungi Kabuye said the december issue has more fabulous prizes for readers.
