DAN Wagaluka and Alimansi Kadogo struck early as Uganda beat Somalia to top Group C in the CECAFA Al Moudi Challenge Cup preliminaries.

Wagaluka latched onto a pinpoint pass from Vincent Kayizzi, sidestepped two defenders and fired past custodian Abdilwali Olad in the 10th minute.
Kadogo doubled Cranes’ tally five minutes later.

He powered in a ground shot from the edge of the box after Olad had punched Tony Odur’s scorching shot back into play. It looked like the Cranes were headed for a goal galore but it never was.

Instead, defender Tom Ssimwogerere who stepped forward to have a piece of the anticipated goal-spree, was sent off on 35 minutes for elbowing an opponent.

Cranes coach Laszlo Csaba gave Robert Kimuli, Simwogerere, Shaka Okello and goalkeeper Hamza Muwonge their first appearance in the tournament. But at the end of it all, he was less than impressed by their game.

“This was bad training for us. It was a very, very bad game. I gave them a chance to show their talent and the result speaks volumes. They took this match too easy,” a downbeat Csaba commented.

Goalkeeper Muwonge, whose porous defence exposed him to opponents, pulled off several saves including a one-on-one with Abdiaziz Mohammed.
Muwonge also saved a penalty by captain Omar Abdilkadir in the 21st minute, ensuring the Somalis return home without a goal.

Csaba brought on Hassan Mubiri, Geoffrey Sserunkuuma and Augustine Nsumba at the restart but failed to find more goals until the last whistle went.
