Mengo education minister Emmanuel Ssendaula has appealed to the Government to tTake stern measures against people who engage in exam malpractices, a . Ssendaula was addressing students and teachers of Buganda Royal Institute of Business and technical education, Mengo recently. He said incidents of examinations malpractices were increasing because the culprits were not severely punished.

FAL learners to graduate

The district is set to hold its first graduation ceremony for the Functional Adult Literacy (FAL) programme. During an interview at his office on Monday, district FAL coordinator James Osamai said 2,011 adult learners out of the 2,020 who sat for the FAL examinations in October, would be awarded certificates this month. Osamai said they include 1934 females and 77 males. Nine learners failed.

Hunger hinders performance

Bad feeding in homes and schools is causing the poor performance of pupils, especially those under the Universal Primary Education Programme, the Woman Member of Parliament has said. Margaret Ssekiziyivu said pupils cannot concentrate in class when they are hungry. Officiating at the Speech Day for Royal Heights Junior Primary School recently, Ssekiziyivu urged parents to grow food to ensure that their children are properly fed.

Parents have been advised to ignore critics of the Universal Primary Education (UPE) programme. “Most of the people who criticise UPE have children in good private schools. Some criticise the programme for selfish reasons,” said Ntenjeru North MP Sarah Nansubuga Nyombi. Nyombi was addressing parents, teachers and students of St. Anthony G.J Infants Primary SChool at their Speech Day recently.
