<b>Town to recycle waste</b> <br>FORT PORTAL - The World Bank has earmarked $300,000 (about sh600m) to build a garbage recycling plant in the municipality.

FORT PORTAL - The World Bank has earmarked $300,000 (about sh600m) to build a garbage recycling plant in the municipality. Assistant town clerk Richard Mande told journalists on Wednesday that the plant would be located in Kiteere village. The three divisions will contribute sh10m and the municipality sh30m. The Japanese government will provide sh102m to buy transport equipment.

Mob kills two suspects
KALIRO - Two men were killed by a mob on Wednesday night after they were caught with a stolen cow. The 8:00pm occurred at Bwayuya. The officer in charge of the local administration Police, Juma Rashid, named the deceased as Umar Balyewunya and James Mugweri, both from Bugweri in Iganga district. The cow was stolen from Peter Muwema’s home.

Council starts cholera fight MITYANA - The town council has started sensitizing the public on the cholera epidemic. The secretary for health and education, Margaret Kalyango, on Thursday said they had resolved to put up a committee to go village-by-village to teach the masses how to prevent the expected outbreak of the disease due to the rains.

LC5 calls for AIDS lessons RUKUNGIRI - The district chairperson, Zedekia Karokora, has directed the education and health departments to start HIV/Aids lessons in schools. “If we are to save our children, they must be aware of HIV/Aids and this can be done successfully in schools. Tell your children about the life changes and what would follow,” Karokora advised at the Aids day celebrations at Ruruku Primary school on Wednesday.

Landmine hits
PADER - A mother, Hellen Akello and her son were injured when she detonated a landmine with a hoe in Omot sub-county, Agago County on Thursday morning. The area LC5 councillor, John Oweka, said the woman was digging when the blast occurred. They were rushed to Dr. Ambrosoli Hospital.

Districts told
KANUNGU - The National Council for Children (NCC) has asked district leaders to include children’s welfare programmes in their development plans. NCC chief Louis Turyamureeba also advised districts to effectively monitor and evaluate child-related activities. He said this while celebrating holy mass at Kambuga parish.

Police arrest
NTUNGAMO - The Police have arrested a Rwandan army deserter on suspicion of terrorising villages in Kitwe sub-county near the Uganda-Rwanda border. District Police chief David Baliddawa said a hand grenade and a machete were recovered from Emmanuel Kaka, before he was handed over to the Violent Crime Crack Unit.

Thief jailed
KAMPALA - A man was on Thursday sentenced to four months in jail for theft. Kasim Obbo Wandera, 29, of Kawempe Ttula was convicted by the Nabweru Grade One magistrate, Aggrey Bwire, after he pleaded guilty to the charge. He was found in possession of Herbert Kwooba’s Nokia 6100 phone worth sh250,000.

CAO to stay
KAMPALA - The High Court on Friday issued an order stopping the public service commission from removing Hoima chief administrative officer (CAO) Patrick Isingoma from office. Justice Remmy Kasule issued the order following Isingoma’s petition.

TASO stuck with ARVs RUKUNGIRI - The branch manager of The Aids Support Organisation (TASO) has appealed to people living with HIV/AIDS in Rukungiri and Kanungu districts to go for antiretroviral drugs (ARVs). Abel Asiimwe on Thursday said they received drugs to treat 900 people living with HIV/AIDS, but they had received only 130 clients.

Namutumba planner jailed IGANGA - The planner of Namutumba district, Dan Namasoko, was on Tuesday sentenced to six months in prison for defaulting on rent. Namasoko failed to pay sh1.9m rent arrears to his former landlord, Emmanuel Ntale.

Sh253m for road repairs
LIRA - Lira Municipal Council has earmarked sh253m for tarmacking and rehabilitating roads. The acting town clerk, George Milton Abua, on Wednesday said the roads to be repaired are Kwania and Ayer.

Suspected thief remanded
JINJA - A man suspected to have stolen timber worth sh1.3m was on Thursday remanded in Kirinya Prison. Bernard Akaki is alleged to have stolen timber belonging to Kakira Sugar Works.

Two bid for Rukungiri Inn
RUKUNGIRI - Two bidders want to buy Rukungiri Inn and its 16 plots located at Karucumisi Road. Kakuba Nkamuhabwa wants to buy the property at sh332m, whereas Meandeleo Company Ltd quoted sh312m.
