KABALE - Education officials who do not supervise schools have led to poor academic performance in the district. State minister for local government Hope Mwesigye said on Friday that the officials were sabotaging the universal primary education programme. Only 300 pupils passed in first division out of over 5,000 in the 2005 primary leaving exams.

Cops hunt
BUSHENYI - The Police are hunting for two thugs who shot dead a salesman of JB Bakery. District police commander Peter Onyura said the thugs took sh3m after shooting Wahab, who was selling bread in Nyakambu trading centre on Thursday.

Defilers trade
KYENJOJO - Defilement is big business in the district, the RDC, Abdul Nsereko, has said. He explained that many parents ask defilers for financial compensation instead of reporting to the Police. He told the district council on Thursday that the worst hit areas were Kakabara and Kyegegwa in Kyaka.
