STATE minister for lands Kasirivu Atwooki has commended the ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Uganda for boosting government programmes in provision of social services.

He said the mission’s development initiatives, like building health centres and promoting agriculture, contributed to the wellbeing of the communities.

Opening the 20th annual convention of the ahmadiyya Muslim community in Wandegeya, Kampala on Friday, Atwooki urged their leaders and followers to continue with their advocacy for peace programmes.

The convention was closed on Sunday by Deputy parliament speaker Rebecca Kadaga, who commended the mission for improving education among Muslims.

“You have built schools, hospitals and mosques with Ahmadiyya names nationwide to serve the people. Thank you for not being afraid of using your name and being proud of your identity,” she said.

The sect’s head, Zahid Inayatullah, urged Muslims to implement the teachings of the Koran and follow the example of Prophet Muhammad.

He said the mission had spent sh120m to rehabilitate the maternity ward in its hospital in Mbale.
