CECAFA president Denis Obua has urged FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa to come out and take over his seat next year so that he continues with the former’s programmes.

Obua, whose four-year term expires next year, will not seek re-election because his constituency (FUFA), is occupied by Mulindwa. CECAFA is the East and Central Africa football body.

“I hear FERWAFA president Bosco Kazura and Burundi FA president Lydia Nzekera are interested but I think if Mulindwa is to come out early, he can beat them,” said Obua, who played, coached and administered football. His sons are also playing football.

On another note, Obua dismissed reports that some of his former ‘strong men’ in FUFA are sabotaging Mulindwa’s programmes.

“Some people don’t know that after I left, I supported Mulindwa whole-heartedly. That is why I want him to be my successor in CECAFA,”said Obua.

He said that all his friends like Patrick Isiagi, Zubair Galiwango, Shafik Menya, Yusuf Kyeyune ‘Chuni’ and others are all quiet because Mulindwa is doing his best.

“Being a FUFA president is not easy. People should not blame Mulindwa for mistakes. Football requires a lot of money, commitment, and above all a strong team,” added Obua.

When contacted, Mulindwa said that he still has time to decide on the issue as he did with FUFA two years ago.
