A CITY lawyer has been remanded to Luzira Prison for perjury or telling lies in court under oath.

David Nyote appeared before Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Margaret Tibulya on Thursday over conniving with two others to defraud his client of over sh90m.

He denied the charges but could not secure bail, and spent his Christmas in Luzira’s Murchison Bay section.

Prosecution led by Jane Musimenta said Nyote lied to a judicial officer in the High Court’s Commercial Division on June 24, 2004.

He told the officer that a cheque for sh52m had been issued to him (Nyote) by Patrick Kasulu.

Musimenta said Nyote also claimed that he had offered legal services to Kasulu, yet he did not.

The cheque that Nyote claimed was his had been issued to Emmanuel Kisame, who was the publicist of the defunct Property Masters owned by Kasulu.

Court told Nyote’s lawyer Charles Kajeke to apply for bail on December 28 when the case comes up again.

Kasulu is reported to have been defrauded of sh92m by his own employees, including the company “lawyer” Denis Kusasira and Kisame.

The two were recently arrested by the Police but were later released on bond.
