Artistes compete for Kabaka’s eye
Abbey Kabanda was crowned winner of the CBS Ganda cultural competition at Lubiri palace last Friday. Unlike normal concerts where the focus is their fans, this time round, the artistes directed their messages to Kabaka Ronald Mutebi.
Abbey Kabanda was crowned winner of the CBS Ganda cultural competition at Lubiri palace last Friday. Unlike normal concerts where the focus is their fans, this time round, the artistes directed their messages to Kabaka Ronald Mutebi.
Afrigo Band’s Joanita Kawalya demonstrated her deep-rooted love for the kingship institution. She injected several pro-federal phrases in her song, Mpa Eddembe.
Meanwhile, Moses Matovu, re-assured the Kabaka of his group’s commitment to Buganda’s development. He led the song Genda osome, which he said had been composed to enhance the Kabaka’s educational campaigns.
On the other hand, Divo Bazannye’s soccer song, Man U livened up the show. It proved that football had become part of every activity. Mesach Ssemakula, Haruna Mubiru and Geoffrey Lutaaya of Eagles Production prostrated and wished the Kabaka long life.
Clad in a kanzu, Ssemakula entertained guests with Ekituwasisa abakazi and Kulika baby. The flashy Ronald Mayinja performed Doreen and Abampalampa.
There was a stampede as crowds left their places to catch a glimpse of CBS’s comedian Kaibanda and Sheila Nvannungi. Kaibanda performed Maria Roza.
Nvannungi wiggled her waist with Ekiwangula omutima gw’omukyala and Dokita.
The presence of Nkwanzi performers, who hail from western Uganda, showed that different cultures could live in peace, unity and harmony in their diversity.
Prince Job Kafeero crowned the show with Gguluddene. His dancers were so creative that people stayed still even after the departure of the Kabaka.
