KAMPALA Boxing Club (KBC) edged army side UPDF to capture the National Seniors Boxing Championship crown in a thrilling final at Lugogo on Sunday.

The Nakivubo-based club collected 32 points edging the defending champions by a point.

Naguru-based East Coast showed the potential in the former boxing stronghold by coming third with 21 points in the final jointly sponsored by Azur mineral water and Body Care Centre.

In the process, light fly Mohammed Kabogoza (East Coast) also proved himself as the new sensation on the block after beating seasoned Migadde Serunjogi 3-0.

Making his third attempt, Kabogoza, a master of good crosses almost scored at will against the former national boxer.

The lanky pugilist first came to the limelight after knocking out another seasoned fighter Philip Adyak (UPDF) on Friday.

The spotlight was in light welterweight where Oscar Binka was unexpectedly declared 2-1 points winner against Michael Obin.

Obin, who pummelled his opponent, looked in charge but a capacity crowd at Lugogo indoor stadium was shocked to see the reverse in the results.

The verdict did not go down well with East Coast’s Simon Barigo who protested the result.
