Alternative to Graduated Tax
THE Government has hired a tax expert from Duke University in the US to study alternatives to Graduated Tax, the programme officer in the local government ministry, Assumpta Tibamwenda, has said.
“We expect the results to be out early this year because there must be enough time for discussions by Parliament and Cabinet before the beginning of next financial year,” Tibamwenda said while presenting a paper on ‘The implementation of the Local Government Development Programme under decentralisation at Hotel Equatoria in Kampala recently.

BAT searches for safety
CIGARETTE smokers might get rid of health hazards resulting from tar if British American Tobacco (BAT) succeeds in its research to produce safe cigarettes.
In a report released recently, BAT’s chief executive officer Paul Adams said, “Scientific studies linking smoking with diseases have prompted more research into whether cigarettes could be modified to make them safer.” He said safe cigarette would reduce health risks to the benefit of BAT and smokers.

STANhope injects sh250m
STANHOPE Finance Company has injected over sh250m in purchasing hardware to improve services, the company’s general manager, Nandanan Kannanpulakkal, has said.
In an interview at Stanhope’s main branch on Uganda House recently, Kannanpulakkal said the hardware would propel the necessary information technology system for improved customer services and network operation.

Dehezi opens new complex
