Residents in the Rwenzori region should not relax because Ugandan rebels are still active in the DR Congo, the Kasese resident district commissioner (RDC) has said.

James Kiiza Rwebembera on Friday said the Allied democratic Forces (ADF) and the People’s redemption Army (PRA) rebels could still attack.

He was addressing delegates at the closure of a three-day budget conference for Kasese district at the Catholic Social Services Hall.

“We still get information that the ADF and the PRA are still active in Congo. Do not relax and take things for granted,” the RDC said.

The ADF rebels were defeated in 2001.

However, reports say the remnants that fled to the DR Congo have been recruited by the PRA, which is linked to UPDF renegades Lt. Col. Anthony Kyakable, Col. Samson Manday and Col. Edison Muzzoora.

Rwebembera also expressed concern at the fall in immunisation coverage in the district.
“Kasese used to top in immunisation. Now we are at the bottom,” he said.

Rwebembera urged leaders to mobilise the population to reverse the trend.
