AT least 24 Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels, three of them commanders, were killed by the UPDF air and ground forces on Monday.
Northern army spokesman Lt. Paddy Ankunda said five LRA others, including the intelligence officer of the group whose identity could not be established, were captured with an assortment of military equipment and hardware.
Ankunda said, “The 401 brigade in Kitgum district supported by helicopter gunship, attacked a group of LRA rebels under the command of Col. Alit and killed 23 rebels north of Paluda in Palabek, including Capt. Okello Opolot, Lt. Richard and 2nd Lt. Richard Nyero.”
Ankunda said they had resumed operations against the rebels in northern Uganda and southern Sudan.
He said they recovered five machine guns, grenades, RPGs and solar panels.
Ankunda said UPDF’s Lt. Col. Patrick Kankiriho commanded the assault against the rebels.
