MAKERERE University has introduced four new postgraduate programmes in computer science.

The programmes established through a 4m Euro (sh9.5b) assistance from the Dutch Government include masters of information technology (MIT) and postgraduate diplomas in information technology, data communications and software engineering, the academic registrar, Amos Olal Odur said.

The programmes to run beginning in March will be conducted by the Institute of Computer Science and professors from the Netherlands universities of Groningen and Radbound for the initial four years.

The Netherlands government through its organisation for international cooperation in higher education (Nuffic) donated the money for a project on building a sustainable Information and Communication Technology training capacity in the four public universities of Makerere, Mbarara, Kyambogo and Gulu.

Olal Odur said application forms for the programmes were available at the registrar’s department.

Students on MIT will have the options of majoring in the fields of information security, information technology management, Internet and service delivery and Internet and web computing.
