It is mind-boggling how Ugandans vote for the best and worst personalities

In October last year, a little known music group, East world, took the most number of PAM awards much to the chagrin of many music fans that later called for a reform in the whole voting system.
The Foda hit beat notable veteran giants hands down- even in categories in which they felt safe. Its controversial video took top honours in one such category, among others.
But the new vision best and worst awards of 2004 got me thinking hard about our voting. What you would consider to be among the best finds its way in the opposite group or in both groups — best and worst! Winnie Byanyima was accused of not being a good mother, not representing her constituency but withdrawing a salary for the same as well as supporting her husband on acts against the Government.
She was also accused of being stubborn. Byanyima, Miria Matembe and Ken Lukyamuzi were voted as the worst dressed. Again Lukyamuzi was voted worst performing MP, yet ironically these are some of the most vocal people.
One wonders if their outspokenness is at the same time their undoing or like a colleague put it, “it’s just nugu!â€. Michael Ezra keeps a very low profile in Uganda but was voted third best-dressed man ahead of Peter Ssematimba whom we see often. Kony is rarely seen but was also among the worst dressed people, his military fatigue notwithstanding.
Did choosing Super FM as best 2004 radio station worry you? saying it has few listeners and its frequency does not reach upcountry areas is useless now. Sorry, the listeners have spoken, so be it. Then you have the second best performing minister as Jim Muhwezi after Mike Mukula.
but again Muhwezi comes back as fourth in the slot for worst performing minister in the group which Syda Bumba beat.
Byanyima came fifth in the woman of the year group only to resurface as worst woman and third in the worst dressed women’s slot.
Ruth Nankabirwa too comes in third as worst woman of the year but was praised for taking on a man, MP Odonga Otto, a feat that enabled her rank sixth in the woman of the year slot, though it is for the same reason that others voted her second worst woman. Can someone explain why Ezra’ came second best businessman of the year after Gordon Wavamuno and ahead of Sudhir Ruparelia and James Mulwana?
Also mind-boggling is Kiiza Besigye being ranked fourth in the worst man slot. Strength of a woman by shaggy and Queen of my heart by Westlife, are old songs but were voted as forst and third respectively for best foreign songs of 2004 yet they are 2003 songs. That is Ugandan voting for you!
