If we’re spanking our child, let us spank sparingly! Bagisu know why they chose Wasieba

SIR— I congratulate Bugisu region on the appointment of Mr Wanjusi Wasieba as state minister for fisheries. I am however disappointed by some articles that have run in the press featuring opposition to his appointment by Bagisu MPs.

No wonder the region’s development has been marred by jealousy and intrigue. Wasieba has served as a minister in this government before and his performance is on record for anybody to see.

Amazingly, this was at a time when the world didn’t know that he had no academic qualifications. What about now when UNEB has cleared him?

People in Bugisu region know what they want and this partly explains why they voted him back.

I request the leadership in Bugisu region to cast their differences aside and pursue unity. You don’t need to be highly educated to know the needs of your people or to make a good leader. Even then, I stand to be corrected if there is any development to boast about initiated by any Mugisu professor, MP or minister in the region?

Let us “beat our own child sparingly” as an old Lumasaaba saying goes. Bamasaaba!
