PRIME Minister Prof. Apolo Nsibambi has said Africa will not achieve its development goal unless its political leaders embrace effective and accountable leadership.

He called for tolerance among the leaders.

Nsibambi was yesterday opening a consultative meeting by leading Ugandan opinion leaders, gathering views on the Commission for Africa (CFA) at Speak Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.

He said the concept would not work without effective and legitimate institutions.

The CFA is an initiative of British premier Tony Blair, to provide a coherent set of policies to accelerate progress towards a strong and prosperous Africa.

Nsibambi said the establishment of the CFA was a positive indication of a new commitment by the developed nations, and Britain in particular, to work in partnership with Africa in solving problems of development on the continent.
