UGANDA’S ambassador to Sudan Mull Katende has said the government will open up a consulate at Juba to help LRA abductees who get scattered during operations and are sometimes killed or made slaves by the Sudanese community.

Katende made the remarks recently while briefing Gulu, Lira, Kitgum, Apac and Pader leaders and other Ugandan envoys at Acholi Inn hotel in Gulu.

“Several former LRA abductees are either killed by the Sudanese community or turned into slaves. So the consulate will coordinate and return the children to Uganda,” he said.
Katende said some of the abducted children who escaped during battles between the UPDF and LRA bombardments, were picked by the UPDF and Sudanese forces and handed over to Juba collection centre.

He said the Juba general consulate would check the security of the formerly abducted children and also promote trade between the two countries.

Katende said he wanted the amnesty commission to provide laminated copies of the Amnesty act, to be dropped in southern Sudan for the community to read in order to spare the lives of abductees who flee to their villages during operations.

He appealed to both the LRA and UPDF to spare the lives of the abductees.
