A LITTLE known rural school in Nakaseke in Luweero district produced one of the district’s top five students in last year’s Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations.

The six-year-old SDA founded Nakaseke Senior Secondary School rose from oblivion to produce Robert Tuke, who excelled alongside traditional and more established schools like Ndejje SSS.

Tuke, son of Patrick Gabiri, a teacher at the school, scored a record aggregate eight to the surprise of many. Tuke’s headmaster, Samuel Tuhairwe, says it was the school’s best ever UCE performance since it was opened in 1998.

“We have been scoring good grades, but this time, we surpassed our performance. Our student scored an aggregate eight for the best eight, bettering last year’s performance with aggregate 14 for the best eight,” the headteacher said.

Tuhairwe said Tuke’s performance comes as no surprise because he was a bright and disciplined student, who helped fellow students sail through.

Tuke says his teachers challenged him to work harder. “My teachers had trust in me.

They made me realise I had the potential to beat the odds.
I did not want to betray my teachers’ trust in me,” Tuke says.
