BONIFACE Kiprop failed to defend his Cinque Mulini title, losing it to Qatar’s Saif Saeed Shaheen in a competitive IAAF permit cross-country race in Italy on Sunday.

Uganda’s long distance runner, who a fortnight ago lost the Amoriebeta cross country crown to Sergiy Lebid, had his final kick to blame against the World 3000m Steeplechase champion and record holder on a rough course that saw the route pass through a mill.

Kiprop who led in the first two laps before surrendering it to Shaheen, clocked 29 minutes 44 seconds in the 10km race, four second behind the winner.

He however, beat Athens Olympic Games marathon gold-medallist Stefanno Baldini, who clocked 30:06 to finish third.

But Dorcus Inzikuru on the same day reigned supreme, winning the IAAF sanctioned Grand Primiera cross country in Spain.

Inzikuru, who flew to Europe last week after high altitude training in Eldoret , Kenya, clocked 24 minutes six seconds to out sprint Ethiopian Gigi Aisha and Romania’s Christina Casandra to the finishing tape.

Paskar Owor on the same evening managed a sixth place finish in the Flanders IAAF Indoor championship in Belgium. He clocked 1:49.41 in the race won by Netherlands’ Arnoud Okken. He clocked 1:46.82.
