THE newly-constructed Kalama Armoured Warfare Training School in Kabamba barracks, Mubende district, was on Saturday commissioned by President Yoweri Museveni.
The school can accommodate about 450 trainees.
A statement from the Presiden-tial Press Unit said the school was put up by the Ministry of Defence at sh1.8b. It was contracted by Ms Medallion Engineering Ltd.
Museveni said the UPDF had registered success, singling out the liberation of Uganda and the fighting of fascist regimes.
He said this had created a good environment for democracy and constitutional rule.
Museveni said UPDF’s hard work brought peace leading to commendable progress in education, health, roads, security and the law.
He said the UPDF had given power back to the people, adding that democratically elected leaders were now running the country at all levels.
Museveni said the protection of the country should always be their pride and cherished duty.
He asked UPDF leaders to focus more on guided-army building principles and avoid compromising resources and earnings.
Defence ministry permanent secretary Gabindadde Musoke said they were committed to professionalising the army.
He said they had embarked on low-cost housing programmes for the UPDF and that rehabilitation of existing barracks was being planned.
