PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has said he defeated one of his biggest political adversaries, Dr. Milton Obote, with verbal attacks and not by gun, report Mariam Nalunkuuma and Jude Etyang.
He said his continued verbal attacks on Obote exposed his bad character.
He was explaining how the Government does not apply force to fight unarmed opposition.
“We (government) do not touch the unarmed, we use words, we talk about you and people know that you are bad. Like Obote, we talked about him and now people are fed up of him. Even now in Zambia, I still give kiboko (strokes) of words,†Museveni said while addressing Muslim clerics in Kampala on Monday.
He said because of the Government’s respect for unarmed opposition, politicians like MP Cecilia Ogwal and others were still moving freely.
Museveni said Uganda was stable because it uses the “targeted approach†to suppress armed opposition.
He condemned terrorism, saying it did not target the enemy but unarmed civilians, especially women and children.
He commended the US government for understanding that conflict could end by dialogue and creating awareness.
The workshop was organised by the National Assembly of Imams and Duats of Uganda (NAIMADU) and the Uganda Joint Christian Council, in support of the US embassy.
NAIMADU chairman Sheikh Obedi Kamulegeya said NAIMADU did not oppose the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.
Present at the function was US embassy public affairs officer Mark Schlachter.
