Just when you thought the formbooks favoured past winners Radio Combo, Kfm Lizards and Hima cement at the Tusker Malt Quiz nite, recent entrant, The New Vision leaders, defied the notion and ‘won’ the 4th Tusker malt Quiz nite at Sheraton Hotel on Friday.
The team comprising Kalungi Kabuye, Timothy Bukumunhe, Alex Balimwikungu, Jude Etyang, Diana Kadama and Phillip Corry broke the ‘almost winners’ jinx and swept the movie category, dislodging three time defending champions, WBS TV, in what was perhaps the sweetest victory of the quiz.
Other categories of the highly competitive quiz were swept by Kfm (General Knowledge), 88.2 Hookers Monologues (famous couples), 88.5 Super Duper fm, (Sports), 90fm Radio Combo (Branding), and the Celtel Pam Pams (Music).
All won gift hampers from sponsors, MTN, WBS, Mukwano industries and Pulse TV.
Winners of a raffle draw were Christine Mawadri of Kfm (two nights for two at Stanley Hotel, Nairobi) and Jennifer Abalo of Hotel Equatoria, (Two nights for two at white sands beach, Mombasa).
Whereas some scratched their heads for elusive answers, others like Team Katan, led by VP’s press secretary, Simon kaheru, were just having fun after they realised they were out of contention. “Which are the only mammals born with horns?” MC Mitch asked. ‘Men’, Kaheru answered. Don’t ask me which horn he was referring to.
However, since the final prize was won on collated results from all categories, the 88.2 hookers monologues, marshalled by Karanja Njoroge, were the overall winners with 49 points out of a possible 65. They bagged sh0.6m and lots of Tusker malt goodies. With 48 points, the Celtel Pam pams came second followed by Sanyu Fm’s second team, 88.2 hookers proper with 47 points.
With 42 points, the New Vision leaders emerged seventh out of 30 participating corporates.
