Faiz grabs February Celtel Mug

FAIZ Alam was the surprise winner of the group A Celtel February Mug at the par-72 Kitante course on Saturday.
Playing under sweltering conditions, Alam shot 73 nett to lift the highly contested mug.
Alam edged seasoned Gad Musasizi by one stroke to claim victory in the top category of the Uganda Golf Club (UGC) competition sponsored by Celtel Uganda.
Elderly Samuel Nsamba defied a knee injury to emerge top in group B with 70 nett. He edged retired motor rally co-driver Stephen Byaruhanga by one shot.
Geoffrey Katooro fired 71 nett to snatch the group C mug with Kenneth Bateyo settling for second position on 72 nett.
There were no surprises in the women’s event.
Jennifer Opio topped group A with one under par 71 nett — beating Cecilia Lwanga to the mug by two strokes.
Regina Ddamulira fired 69nett to take the group B mug with Mary Zaramba (72 nett) settling for second position.
