THE Vice-President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, has called upon the people of Lango to forgive the Lord’s Resistance army rebels who massacred over 200 people in Barlonyo, Ogur sub-county in Lira district on February 21, 2004.

Bukenya arrived in Lira town on Saturday ahead of the commemoration of the LRA massacres due today.

He said hatred among the people and lack of respect for other ethnic groups was the cause of instability in the country.

Addressing a congregation at Uganda Martyrs Cathedral in Lira, Bukenya urged the people not only to exhibit love and tolerance for one another in places of worship, but to manifest the virtues in their daily lives.

Bishop Paul Kalanda of Lira diocese led the service.

Bukenya was received amid ululation from Movement supporters.

He hailed LRA commanders Brig. Sam Kolo, Col. Onen Kamdulu and others for surrendering, saying this would help foster peace in the region. He said the door was still open for the LRA to negotiate.
