PONSIANO Lwakataka yesterday received a sh8m boost from Kilimanjaro Ice ahead of this weekend’s Alpha Mbarara rally.

The offer was a contribution towards shock absorbers worth sh12m that will be fitted in his new Subaru Impreza rebuilt at Race Mart workshop in Kampala.

Kilimanjaro marketing manager Stella Kagere handed over a cheque to Lwakataka at the company’s premises on Old Port Bell Road.

“We hope our contribution will help improve Lwakataka’s performance this season,” Kagere said.

Fourteen drivers have so far entered the Alpha rally that will start and end in Mbarara.

Alpha Dairy Products are sponsors of the rally organised by United Motor Sports Club (UMOSPOC).

Meanwhile, race favourite Riyaz Kurji has acquired a British technical advisor from Pro-drive in UK for the 2005 Africa Rally Championship (ARC). Pro-drive where Kurji bought his Subaru Impreza are constructors for Subaru World Rally Cars (WRC).

Andy Williamson headed Kujri’s technical team in the Knight Support Tanzania rally that he won last weekend.
“It is good to have him close. It gives me a lot of confidence. I want him to work with Grund Heiko (his chief mechanic) and my other mechanics this season,” Kurji said.
