Excitement characterised Maama Mirembe, Lord Fred Ssebatta’s new song, which was unveiled at Kampala’s Cooper Theatre on Saturday. The production, which featured Matendo band, appeals to everyone.
Ssebatta tackles contemporary issues using music and drama. He uses decent and descriptive language. The artiste highlights problems in society and offers solutions to them. Apart from kadongokamu, he also plays zouk, Afro-pop and ragga music.
Ssebatta’s song, Namuluuta, criticises men, who dump their women after they become wealthy. The metaphor-laden single, Mpawo Atalemererwa, highlights the risks of having sex without wearing a condom. The anti-HIV message in the song sunk in the minds of his audience. In his song, Engo Y’ekiggwa, Ssebatta advises the public to stop commercialising politics.
Maama Mirembe calls for the revival Ssenga, a Ganda institution that prepared girls for happy marriages.
