MPS have asked the Government to explain the hostile weather conditions currently prevailing in the country.

Geoffrey Ekanya, while in Tororo on Tuesday, expressed concern that plants and rivers were drying up because of the unusual weather.

Ekanya said climatologists had said this type of weather was experienced 120 years ago. He said other countries had already made plans to address the problem.

“We would like to know what concrete actions the Government has taken to address this problem,” Ekanya said.

According to the National Meteorological Centre, Entebbe, the dry conditions and hot temperatures are expected to continue.

The Minister of State for Lands, Baguma Isoke, said for four decades the globe had been experiencing global warming caused by industries pumping poisonous gases in the atmosphere.

However, Isoke said it was up to Parliament to implement Article 249 of the Constitution on the establishment of a commission on disaster preparedness and mitigation measures. He said disasters would be taken care of by the Premier’s office.
