By Abubaker Mukose The UPDF recruitment exercise in Jinja district was marred by numerous forgeries of academic transcripts, leaving six candidates arrested.
The exercise conducted at Busoga Square on Thursday ended close to 7:00pm with only 32 candidates qualifying out of the targeted 45 recruits from Jinja alone.
Maj. D.E. Omoding, who headed the exercise, said, “The turn up was big but candidates got eliminated due to academic papers. We also unearthed numerous forgeries and handed over six culprits to the police.â€
He named some of the suspects as Isaac Opio, Ali Okello and Francis Owing. Omoding, who is the chief instructor at the Jinja Military Academy, added, “The recruitment exercise is part of the UPDF’s professionalisation process where need for qualified people is paramount.â€
He said the minimum qualification was A’level certificate with a bias to science subjects. Omoding said the general turn up was low in Busoga, making it difficult to achieve the quota.
He said 41 were recruited in Iganga district, 13 in Bugiri, 15 in Kamuli and only six from Mayuge. The quota for Bugiri was 32, 70 for Iganga, 72 for Kamuli and 45 for Jinja. Ends
