SIR— I trained as a medical doctor at Makerere University in the 1970s. I left Uganda in 1982 to pursue further studies in the UK and USA. I have been practising medicine in the US for the past 20 years. I retired from medicine in 2004 and I am now the General Manager of Hillside Investments Inc., a family-owned real-estate investment company based in Macon, Georgia, USA. I am 50 years old, married to the same wife for the past 25 years and the father of four sons. I was profoundly touched by Mbekeka’s ordeal and personal determination. I would like to help her achieve her goal of obtaining a university degree. Working with my contacts, both here in the US and in Uganda, her dream can come true. Please tell Mbekeka that I want to help her achieve her goal of obtaining university education. I need to think of how to
channel the help in a way that not only benefits Mbekeka but others like her. Ms. Harriet Onyalla can be the go-between until I finalise methods to help this young lady.

SIR—Thank you for bringing the stories of women who experience violence and what it does to their emotional, physical and social well-being. I especially like the story of this brave girl Mbekeka. There is some deep pain and suffering which we need to uncover and come to terms with. Wherever there is a secret conspiracy of violence of a sexual nature to our boys and girls, we need to be worried.
We also need to help the victims. I would like to hear more about how these victims of abuse were assisted by the law enforcement agencies.
