DEFENSIVE rock Timothy Batabaire snuffed out Orlando Pirates’ attack to give his club Bloemfontein Celtic a 1-0 victory at the Seisa Ramabodu stadium on Wednesday night.
The Ugandan central defender enhanced his reputation by frustrating the Castle premiership league leaders in a match played at a cracking pace.
It was only the second time that Pirates have been beaten in the league this season. However, they are still eight points ahead of second placed Kaizer Chiefs who have two matches in hand.
Fees Moloi snatched Bloemfontein’s lone goal.
The former SC Villa defender joined the South African club last year. He has since featured in five matches for Bloemfontein Celtic.
Batabaire will be part of the Cranes side scheduled to encounter South Africa in a 2006 World/Nations Cup qualifier in Johannesburg on March 25. Bafana Bafana won 1-0 in Kampala.
Cranes tactician Mohammed Abbas, watched and sounded impressed by the 27-year old’s performance.
