MTV base wants better from Uganda

UGANDAN musicians literally have to style up if they want the videos shown worldwide on MTV base.

UGANDAN musicians literally have to style up if they want the videos shown worldwide on MTV base.

“The channel is called MTV base rather than MTV africa because the name ‘MTV base’ is inspired by the UK channel ‘MTV base’ (UK) –– which targets fans of hip hop, soul and R 'n B –– a similar international music profile to that proposed for Africa” said MTV base Africa Talent and Artist Representative, Richard Dimosi at a press conference at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

He went on to add that they are looking for videos from new artists –– rap, hip hop, jungle –– whatever it is. While some Ugandan artistes (Klear Kut, Blue*3, Peter Miles) have aired on MTV base, the majority of the videos shown on WBS’ Jam Agenda and African Rhythms or on UTV do not meet the criteria or the standards of the station. Diomosi says the videos have to be clean and with a story board.

Artistes will also get royalties of $150 every time their video is aired.
