WILSON Busienei and Boniface Kiprop have joined the high altitude training camp in Bukwa, Kapchorwa. The duo, who had an early season stint in Europe, will be part of the ten-man athletics team to represent Uganda at the 33rd World Cross-country Championship in St. Etienne, France on March 19.

“All the athletes are in camp. We wanted to put them in a place where they have maximum concentration,” said the local athletics governing body secretary Beatrice Ayikoru.

Long distance coach Gordon Ahimbisibwe, who handled Uganda’s successful teams last year, is training the team.

Ahimbisibwe handled the junior men’s bronze medal winning team at the world cross-country championships and the national side at the world half marathon in Delhi last year.

Uganda will enter both a junior and senior men team in this year’s event, though the local athletics federation is still looking for money to make the trip a success.

Meanwhile, Dorcus Inzikuru has pulled out of the world cross-country team, choosing to concentrate on building her performance ahead of the competitive track and field season.
The track season will climax with the World Championship in Finland in August.

Inzikuru, currently in camp in Kenya, is expected to take part in the 3000m steeplechase where she holds the African record at 9 minutes 29.3 seconds.

The cross-country team:
Junior men
Moses Kipsiro, Moses Aliwa, Isaac Kiprop, Geoffrey Kusiro, Patrick Cherotwo.

Senior men
Kiprop, Wilson Kipkemei, Martin Toroitich, Gilbert Kiptum and James Kibet.
