GRAND Celebration of the year, Ebbinu Makeke it was dubbed — and how it attracted a mammoth crowd. People started trickling in as early as 8:00am and when the first artiste, Abdu Murasi, took to the stage at 3:00pm, the stadium brimmed with seas of sweaty but enthusiastic fans who never seemed to mind sweltering heat conditions.
Eagles Production Band provided back up act to many artistes who gave live performances. Many, like Mesach Ssemakula, Prince Paul Job Kafeero, Sheila Nvanungi, Bobi wine and Julian Kanyomozi, Jose Chameleone, Ragga Dee, Irene Namatovu, Catherine Kusasira and Butcherman of Fire Base Crew, put up a spirited performance attracting a thunderous applause from satisfied fans.
The Amarula Family stole the show when they arrived on a convoy of boda boda cyclists covered with dry banana leaves while imitating his Excellency Yoweri Museveni. They were applauded and given a standing ovation by the excited crowd.
As usual they concluded their comics in mimicry of Kampala City Mayor John Ssebaana Kizito.
Five fans who successfully mimed their favourite artistes’ songs were rewarded a bicycle each by the Ebbinu Makeke organisers.
One of them mimed Kafero’s Dipo Nazi gala, the second mimed Abdu Mulasi’s Farm while others mimed songs by Irene Namatovu, Ragga Dee and Ronald Mayinja.
The fans, wearing sun caps with the Ebbinu Makeke logo, occupied the pavilion as well as the pitch. Many others preferred dancing all through. The concert that was organised by Ronald Mayinja of Eagles Production Band and sponsored by Samona Products, Giant Eagles and CBS, left several inebriated fans half dead in the stadium.
After dusk, you could see several people falling on the levelled green grass of Nakivubo Stadium. It was pretty much an event that kicked off Sunday morning ended Monday morning with some fans still showing no signs of leaving. So much for having fun!
