THE Government has launched a programme to monitor and evaluate all official policies and programmes to increase efficiency.

Prof Mondo Kagonyera, the minister of general duties, said while launching the National Monitoring and Evaluation Strategy (NIMES) recently that government departments and the private sector should value monitoring and evaluation to accelerate development.

“Unless we re-cast our thinking, remove all duplication and develop management, it will be very difficult at the current pace of Uganda’s development to meet the Government objectives and many of the Millennium Development Goals,” Kagonyera said at Hotel Equatoria in Kampala.

NIMES is a coordination framework under the office of the Prime Minister.
Kagonyera said NIMES will encourage all government institutions and individuals to use information for evidence-based decision-making and planning.

It follows Cabinet’s approval of a framework to rationalise and synchronise state programmes.
