MTN will soon start charging its subscribers per second instead of per minute as is the current practice, top MTN officials have said.

Making the announcement on Monday, MTN’s chief executive officer, Noel Meier, said per second billing only charges customers in seconds and offers cost-savings to users, who speak for less than a minute at a time.

“Per second billing will be applicable from the first second of the customer’s call. Customers will only pay for what they say. If they make a 10-seconds call, they will only be billed for 10 seconds. Talk for a second, pay for a second. MTN will be the only network in Uganda to offer per second billing right from the first second,” Meier said.

The move could save MTN subscribers millions of shillings monthly, industry observers said.

Meier said they had approved a plan to launch the product because the company has made significant investment in its network over the years and is able to deliver additional products and services.
