THE apiary and forestry industries in Kasese district are under threat following the rampant drought-related bush burning in which acres of trees and beehives have been destroyed.

In Mahango and Kyalumba sub-counties, eucalyptus trees worth sh6m and over 100 beehives have been burnt down.

The acting district forestry officer, Jonathan Nziwa, said the eucalyptus plantation in Mahango was planted with money from the Belgium Technical Cooperation programme.

The Kasese Honey Project manager, Elieza Magezi, said about 80 beehives had been burnt in Kyalumba and Kyondo sub-counties.
