Travel allowances for public officers and political leaders, including Cabinet ministers and presidential advisers, have been increased, with effect from July 1 this year.

The increment was communicated in a 10-page February 15 Ministry of Public Service circular entitled “Revised rates of duty facilitating allowancesâ€. It was signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Service, Jimmy Lwamafa.
The Vice-President and the Prime minister daily allowances while on duty inside Uganda has been increased from sh70,000 to sh140,000 and sh66,000 to sh130,000 respectively. Their Safari Day Allowances have been raised from sh10,000 to sh15,000 and sh9,000 to sh14,000 respectively.
While outside the country, the Vice-President and Premier will earn $460 and $430 per night, up from $400 and $300 respectively.
The Chief Justice, who falls under the Specified Officers category, will get sh135,00, up from sh68,000 within Uganda and $430 abroad instead of $400.
The Inspector General of Government will be paid sh110,000 up from sh62,000 inside Uganda and $330 instead of $300 per night abroad. He will get $300 abroad, up from $240.
Cabinet ministers will get sh120,000 in Uganda instead of sh62,000. Outside allowance has gone up to $370 from $300.
Public officers in U1, U2, U3-U4, and U8, who use personal vehicles from home to office and for official duties within a 16km radius are to get monthly allowances of sh240,000, sh180,000, sh150,000 and sh70,000, respectively as mileage. Ends
