The countdown to the PAM) Awards 2005 is on, with major changes in the voting system. In the new voting system, “only registered artistes and media houses will nominate artistes for the awards.

To register, artistes are required to fill a form stating their names, phone contacts, respective music category and some of their works,” Isaac Mulindwa, chairman PAM Awards organising commitee says. Each registered artiste and media house will write an artiste of their choice under each category.

The completed forms will be forwarded to Ernest & Young. who will generate a list of four nominees per category.

These will be the first four most mentioned artistes per category. A winner will then be voted from the four. Mulindwa says three bodies will vote for winners.

Artistes: They will fill out separate forms wand tick ONE winner out of four nominees in each category. The artistes’ vote will form 30% of the total vote per category.

A Panel of judges: This will be constituted by nine people from separate institutions deemed critical to the development of music in Uganda.

One person will be selected from the MDD Department, Makerere University; the public; Kampala Music School; a (retired) veteran artiste; a VJ/TV presenter of a music show; a DJ/radio presenter; a Club DJ; a newspaper music critic and a music director from a radio station. The panel’s vote will form 30% of the total vote per category.

l The Public: These will be required to cast their vote via sms to a designated number. The public’s vote will constitute 30% of the total vote per category.

“The total vote from a summation of the voting bodies will determine the winner of a particular category.
