NATIONAL coach Yayiro Kasasa has set Rugby Cranes players minimum standards as they start preparations for the qualifiers for the International Rugby Board (IRB) 2007 World Cup in France.

Kasasa called upon players to maintain fitness, be focused and dedicated ahead of the qualifiers which start in June.

Uganda Rugby Football Union summoned 38 players to start preparations for the qualifiers and the Confederation of Africa Rugby Top Nine championships.

“We have a lot at stake and the earlier we start, the better. I have the faith that if we prepare well, nothing will stop us from playing the World Cup in France,” a confident Kasasa remarked.

Kasasa has targeted vastly experienced players and a few newcomers to bring good results home.

The regional qualifiers will have Uganda, rivals Kenya and Madagascar tussle it out starting June 11 when Kenya hosts Madagascar.

In the CAR Top 9 tournament, Uganda is grouped with giants South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Youngsters Solomon Mawanda, Alex Mubiru and Alfred Karekaho were the surprise inclusions on the squad that also has stars Robert Seguya, Allan Musoke, Timothy Mudola, Fred Mudola and David Bukenya.
